Cycle Recycling at Paddington Station
Ever wondered what happens to abandoned cycles at Paddington Station? The team at Network Rail have joined forces with The Paddington Partnership to ensure that cycles go to a good home.
Every four months the cycle park at Paddington Station is checked by the station's managers for abandoned cycles. The facility has space for 350 cycles, of which between 30 and 60 cycles each quarter are found to have been abandoned by their owners.
Network Rail tag those cycles identified and if the owner does not remove the tag within three weeks, the cycles are removed from the facility to make way for other users.
Through the Paddington Partnership's community programme, the cycles are found a new home, with community housing project WECH (Walterton and Elgin Community Homes). The cycles are auctioned amongst residents, with the funds raised ploughed back into the community project's events budget, for trips and activities for young people, families and elderly residents.
