A Grand Union for Earth Day 2025
To mark Earth Day 2025, 231 colleagues representing 25 Paddington businesses took to the water on GoBoats in Paddington to remove plastic waste from the Grand Union canal.

Equipped with a selection of litter pickers and brightly coloured marigold gloves, the teams pulled an array of items from the water. The more unusual items included a chopping board, pedal bin, pair of shoes and socks, a picture frame, coconut and football; alongside crisp packets, bottles and plastic bags.

The Earth Day canal clean-up events were held across two dates - 24 and 29 April - and proved an excellent opportunity to bring together future members of the Grand Union Business Improvement District alongside our existing subscribers.
In total volunteers travelled a distance of 66km on the canal and gave over 450 hours of their time to enhance the physical environment on the doorstep of their offices.
“Thanks to the whole team for organising the event yesterday. We had a great time and look forward to getting involved again in the future” Jessica Fredricsen, First Group.
“Thank you so much for inviting us. Our team really enjoyed themselves and gained more knowledge and experience on keeping our planet clean” Savio Colaco, Wilde Aparthotels.

A huge thank you to GoBoat London for partnering with us on this initiative. We will be continuing to hold regular litter picks on the water over the summer months to help manage plastic pollution in Paddington and will be inviting BID members to join us again in September for another all-company canal clean. We very much hope to see you on the water then.
