Padel in Paddington
Padel courts are heading to Paddington, with Padel Social Club set to open courts on the former Pergola site at British Land’s 5 Kingdom Street.
Subject to planning, there will be four courts, two covered and two open, alongside a range of food and drink options, padel shop, accessible toilets and viewing zones.
Padel has become one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports in recent years, thanks to its fun and easy-to-learn rules, its highly sociable nature and its accessibility to mixed ages and abilities. Played on an enclosed court about a third of the size of a tennis court with back walls for the ball to bounce off, the game is designed for four players, and most matches feature two pairs of players.

Padel is a sport for anyone and everyone. No matter your age or ability, everyone is welcome. The temporary courts (expected to be in place until the end of 2028) will benefit from floodlighting, allowing them to operate all year round between the hours of 6 am and 11 pm.
Padel Social Club at Paddington Central is designed to accommodate approximately 50 people during typical operation, 16 using the courts and a further 16 waiting outside (with around four alongside each court). On special event and competition days, the site is designed to host up to 100 people.

Involving the Community
Paddington’s padel courts will be the first to open in Westminster outside the Royal Parks and have been welcomed by the surrounding community.
Grand Union BID is supporting Padel Social Club on community engagement and will work with local schools, community groups and charities to bring padel to the wider community.
