Special school seeks your support this summer
School may be out for the summer, but Grand Union BID will be spending plenty of time in classrooms and playgrounds over the next six weeks, supporting our school partners as they prepare for the new academic year.
On 20 August we’re inviting BID members to join forces and help Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee School tackle a long list of practical tasks; all needed to create welcoming and safe spaces for when term begins in September.

Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee School is a special school for children and young people aged 4 - 19 with complex learning and physical disabilities. The school offers its students fantastic facilities across an extensive site, but the space demands constant maintenance. In April this year the school suffered a fire, requiring all of its pupils and staff to evacuate the site and destroying part of the school roof. We are looking to recruit 80 corporate volunteers to help complete a range of practical tasks over the course of the day, some of which are a direct response to damage caused by the fire.
Tasks will include:
- Replacing backing paper on all the school display boards with fire retardant materials
- Painting outdoor picnic tables in bright designs to create inviting spaces for staff and pupils to sit at breaktimes
- Varnishing outdoor planters and sheds to help maintain them during the colder months
- Weeding overgrown raised beds to provide new growing spaces for school pupils
- Re-painting corridors and classrooms to create bright and inviting spaces for learning
- Sorting and organising storage cupboards to enable more efficient management of resources

The volunteer day will be organised into a morning and afternoon session, with a maximum capacity for 40 volunteers in each and the option for colleagues to support all day if they wish.
Session 1: 9.30am – 12.30pm
Session 2: 1.45pm – 4:30pm
This event has the capacity to give the school nearly 500 volunteering hours. We’d love you to join us as we transform spaces inside and out.
